He is now the face of Colorado on the world stage. Through my travels I've encountered people from New Zealand or the other side. When you tell them you're from Colorado The first thing they'll use are Oh John Denver. Brown clarified. Take Me Home Country Roads is the only Denver Top 10 Hit as a solo artist after having worked within small Folk Music groups. The track was written by Bill Danoff. Danoff had originally written the tune to Johnny Cash's tune with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver knew from the first time he heard the early versions that the song would be a big success. The song was first recorded several weeks after it was performed in Washington D.C. performance.
